One goal of midwifery is to ensure, as much as possible, that the you have a midwife with you for labour and birth that you know and feel comfortable with. In Ontario, two midwives attend each birth so you will be given a primary and a secondary midwife to provide your care throughout your entire pregnancy, birth and postpartum period.

Midwives are assigned clients taking into consideration client's preferences, estimated due date, geographical location, choice of birthplace, birth history and perhaps other issues.
