We do try to maximize the chances that you will have one or both of the midwives that you know with you for your labour and birth. Of course, birth is unpredictable and there is a possibility that another midwife in the practice may attend you. You will have the chance to meet all of the midwives in the practice, as well as the students, by attending the regularly scheduled meet-the-midwife evenings, movie nights and other sessions held at the clinic. Since midwives are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, we do schedule 72 hours of off-call time to occur for each midwife on a three-week rotation. Midwives take two months off per year and no clients are scheduled for them that month. However, if you give birth earlier or later than expected, your primary midwife may be away. All efforts will be made to have your second midwife attend you and to facilitate this we avoid scheduling off-call time for both of your midwives at the same time.
